Joseph Phillip Emmite, born March 30, 1936 in Dickinson, Texas,  peacefully  passed from this world to the next in the comfort of his home in Paris, Texas , on February 03, 2012 in the presence of his wife and daughters, after a brave battle.

Dr. Emmite was a well-loved and respected husband, father of three, grandfather of eleven and physician to many in the Northeast Texas area. He graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Notre Dame du Lac in South Bend, Indiana. He earned his Doctorate of Medicine at Saint Louis University in Saint Louis, Missouri. He was the Chief Flight Surgeon for the United States Air Force at James Connally ABF Waco, Texas.  He also served as Chief of Internal Medicine at Torrejon, Spain AFB. After an honorable discharge from the United States Air Force, he began private practice of Internal Medicine in Dickinson, Texas and then in Paris, Texas. He was a member of the Lamar County Medical Society, the Texas Medical Association and the American Medical Association. He touched many lives and dedicated his life to selfless service for over 44 years.

He married Glee Eileen Maher on November 23, 1961 in Saint Louis, Missouri. The two celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2011. He is survived by his wife Glee, daughter Eileen Emmite Calabria (married to Michael Calabria) of Blue Springs, Missouri, daughter Sharon Marie Emmite of Taos, New Mexico, and son David Joseph Emmite (married to Tia Doar Emmite) of Portland, Oregon, and brother, Dr. Philip Leonard Emmite

Joseph was known as “Poppy” to his eleven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter who are Diana Marie Means, Montana Jack Hall, Savannah Leigh Hall and her twin, Hunter Emmite Hall, Bailie Glee Turgeon, Sam Joseph Emmite, Noah Erlo Schoder, Grace Margaret Emmite, James Joseph Emmite, Julian Calabria and Patrick Calabria, Gina Gabriele Calabria.

Rosary and Visitation will be said at 6:30 pm Sunday, February 5, 2012 at the Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, February 6th , at 10:00 am at the Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church. Burial will be at the Mount Olivet Cemetery in Dickinson, Texas on February 8th at 10:00 am.

Joseph and Family requested that in lieu of flowers, donations would be made to the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul Food Pantry at the Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church and/or King’s Daughter’s of Paris, Texas.

Pallbearers include M. Kelsey Gibbs, M.D., David Carpenter, M.D., Robert O. Zimmerman, M.D., Thomas R. Troutt, M.D., Arthur Tijerina, M.D., Thomas Calabria, D.D.S., Pete Dalrymple, C.R.N.A., Larry Don Jordan. The Patriot Guard Riders will pay their respects at the Church with a Flagline.
