Gene Houston, 85 of Troy, Texas, passed away on November 4, 2010 after a brave battle with cancer.

A Graveside service has been scheduled for Monday, November 8, 2010 at 1:00 P.M. at Meadowbrook Gardens Cemetery with Rev. Jack Graham officiating. No visitation has been scheduled.

He was born May 13, 1925 and grew up in Lamar County, Texas. He proudly served in the Navy during World War II. He married Ennis Marie Littlejohn in 1948. He worked in a variety of jobs and finally got into the poultry business, managing chicken hatcheries for DeKalb in the Paris area and eventually managed turkey farms around the Temple, Texas area. He then went to work for Wilsonart in Temple for ten years until he retired.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 2009. He is survived by his children, Dale and Cynthia Houston of Austin, Becky and Randy Machemehl of Austin, Katy and Joe Word of Round Mountain; sister-in-law, Lee Littlejohn Wise of Austin, formerly of Troy; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews; dear friends, Dave and Mary Hansen and honorary grandchildren, Chip and Will Hansen; his wonderful caregivers Deloris and Rosanna.
