Obituaries

Dorene Whitworth Thrasher, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, died Monday July 2, 2012 after a brief illness. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 am on July 6 at Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home, visitation Thursday, July 5 from 6-7 pm. Burial will follow at 3 pm in Olive Branch Cemetery, at Doddridge, Arkansas.

She was born on January 27, 1922 in Nathan, Arkansas to Madison and Frankie Floyd. Dorene attended school in Nathan, Arkansas and graduated from Nashville High School in 1941. She worked at Lone Star Defense Plant in Texarkana during WWII. Later she attended cosmetology school in Hot Springs, Arkansas and worked in the profession until marrying Dewey Whitworth in 1947. Dewey’s career in pipe fitting carried the family across the country. They settled in Paris in 1963. He preceded her in death in 1966. She later married Paul Thrasher in 1973; he also preceded her in death.

She retired from Campbell Soup after 23 years. Dorene was an active member of Bonham Street Church of Christ for 49 years. After retirement, she enjoyed volunteering at Paris Public Library and was a hospital volunteer for over 20 years. She was an excellent cook and a talented seamstress.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Jeffrey Whitworth, a brother, Jack Floyd and sister, Dorothy Robertson.

Dorene is survived by her daughter, Donna Gibson and husband Jack, and three grandchildren, Will Whitworth of Whitefish, Montana, Kelli Taylor and husband Josh of Frisco, Texas and Leah Bosse and husband Don of Melissa, Texas, one great grandson, Gavin Bosse, dear friend, Susan Whitworth and sister, Florence Turley of Nashville, Arkansas.
