ROBERT HOYLE PHILLIPS, 91, of Paris, died Friday, August 24, 2007 at Paris Regional Medical Center. He was two days short of his 92nd birthday. Happy Birthday, Daddy. We love you.
Graveside services have been scheduled for 3:00 PM Sunday, August 26, 2007 at Meadowbrook Gardens Cemetery with Rev. Mike Fortenberry officiating with Masonic rites. The family received friends from 6:00-7:00 PM Saturday at the funeral home. Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.
Hoyle “Bob” was born August 26, 1915 in the Milton Community of Lamar County, Texas. He was the son of Robert W. and Mary C. Monk Phillips. On January 31, 1948, he married Lucille Butler in Paris. He retired in August 1980 from the Texas Department of Transportation with 30 years of service. Hoyle entered the Army Air Corps in September 1940 and served until October 1945. He assisted in opening Nillis Air Base in Las Vegas, NV. Later, he was transferred to Scotland as flight mechanic in the Air Corp to keep the planes flying during World War II. After the war, he continued service with the Air Force Reserves thru the Korean War.
He, along with his family, was a member of East Paris Baptist Church in Paris. For many years, he served as a deacon for the church. Hoyle was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Paris having received his 50 year pin in 2003. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Red River Shrine Club and the Lamar County Scottish Rites Club. He served as Chaplain for both organizations.
Preceding him in death are his parents; a sister, Zealon; nephews Dennis Hoyle and John Louis Humphreys and his beloved wife, Lucille in May of this year.
Robert Hoyle is survived by his son, John Robert Phillips and wife, Robin of Paris; two daughters, Pamela Phillips of Palos Verdes Estates, CA, and Barbara Phillips Lewis of Mesquite, TX; his four grandsons, Chesley Phillips and wife, Dana of Blossom, Wesley Phillips of Paris, James Robert Lewis of Houston, and Brandon Phillips of Paris; his four great-grandchildren, Haley and Dalton Phillips of Blossom, Talia Dixon of Honey Grove, and Raden Phillips of Paris; his sister, Valla Dean Blakney of Haskell, TX; and many nieces and nephews from both sides of the families.
Hoyle and Lucille enjoyed over 59 years of marriage, their grandchildren, their membership at church, and Hoyle’s Masonic bodies work.
If desired, memorials may be made to the Scottish Rites, or Shriners’ Hospital, or the Lucille Phillips Nursing Scholarship at Paris Junior College.
